Fishing Report

Green River:
The Green is running 1300 cfs at Warren Bridge. On June 1st it crested at 3000 cfs. This is as high as the river has been since 1994! I think the runoff will come slowly and we will have clear high water for the month of June (I hope). Salmon Flies should be starting soon as well as good Caddis hatches on warmer days.

Flies for the Green:

  • Bitch Creek #4 to #6
  • Brown or Black Yuk Bug #4 to #6
  • Golden Stone nymphs #6 to #8
  • Bright streamers with rubber legs like JJ’s and Tequeely’s
  • Peacock Caddis (to imitate any color) #12 to #14

New Fork River:
The New Fork is a little rust colored from the runoff but is fishing fair. I don’t think the river is going to come much more, but it will level off and clear in the next few weeks.

Flies for the New Fork:

  • Bitch Creek #4 to #6
  • Zuddlers any color # 4
  • Wooly Buggers any color # 4 to 6
  • Yuk Bugs any color # 4 to 6

Soda Lake:
The lake is fishing fair. Reports from opening day were good to fair. The lake is also five feet low so the oxygen levels are not far from the surface. The trout in the lake will be closer to the surface than normal years until the lake fills.

Flies for Soda:

  • Chironomids Black or Red # 16
  • Scuds all colors # 12 to 16
  • BH Prince # 14 to 18
  • Platte River Special # 4 to 6
  • Orange Blossum Special # 4 to 6

Meadow Lake:
Meadow is a great grayling lake. They are the only species in the lake and they are plentiful. The Game and Fish are done spawning fish and they got eggs from some very big females up to 15 inches!

Flies for Meadow:

  • B.H. Zug Bug #14 to 16
  • B.H. Prince #14 to 16
  • Montana Prince #14 to 16

This report will be updated as often as the bugs change, so we change it weekly throughout the summer months.
