Ashlee Merriam, RN with Sublette County Health, was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

This year marked the 11th annual DAISY Awards celebration in Sublette County, recognizing nurses from across the community for their dedication and service. Twelve nurses were nominated this year by patients, residents, coworkers, staff, and community members. Nominees included Amber Woolaver, Micaela Kirk, Mary Said, Ashlee Merriam, Addison Milleg, Julie Woolwine, Tonia Hoffman, Jody Guthrie, April Rogers, Kim Mason, Sadie Lundberg and Brandy Jones.

Merriam currently serves as the Assistant Director of Nursing at the Heritage Home. She has been part of the Sublette County healthcare community for more than 15 years, beginning her career as a CNA at the former Sublette Center before becoming a registered nurse and nursing leader.

During the award presentation, 2024 DAISY recipient Kristy Bartlett described Merriam as "one of the most caring and compassionate nurses I have ever had the privilege of working with." Bartlett noted that Merriam is a steadfast advocate for both residents and staff, and that her leadership is grounded in compassion, integrity, and a genuine commitment to those she serves. A coworker nomination described Merriam as "the heart of Heritage Home and truly the example all of us should replicate in ourselves."

The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease. The Barnes family created the foundation after experiencing the exceptional care and compassion nurses provided during Patrick’s illness. DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.

Former Sublette County DAISY Award recipients include Amanda Maxam, Amy Deeds, Julie Woolwine, Leslie Hagenstein, Katie Hoffman, Vicky Marshall, Molly Landers, Amber Burbank, Kristy Bartlett, Tory Becker, and the Public Health Nurses, who received a Team DAISY Award in 2020 for their work during the pandemic.

To celebrate the DAISY award and Nurses’ Week, Nurses from the Hospital District, the Sublette Center, SCSD #1, SCSD #9 and Public Health were invited to enjoy a relaxing meal at Lakeside and celebrate their profession. JAKS provided the daises. Nurses are the backbones of their healthcare organizations, and while we are thankful for their service year-round, it’s important to stop and take a moment to appreciate everything they do.
