Aerial cheatgrass treatment begins July 25th

Sublette County Weed and Pest, along with our many partners, will be conducting aerial cheatgrass treatment within Sublette County starting July 25th through mid-August.
Sublette County Weed and Pest’s contracted commercial applicator will be treating private land in the Pole Creek and Willow Lake areas as well as State Land along the East Fork and Scab Creek, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Soda Lake, Luke Lynch and Fall Creek WHMA’s, and United States Forest Services area of New Fork Lake. The Soda Lake WHMA treatments are scheduled from July 29-August 2nd. The New Fork treatments will be August 5th -9th. These treatments will occur until complete and will be dependent on weather.
Please find an alternative place to recreate so that we can manage this invasive annual grass to protect native ecosystems.
Cheatgrass is a non-native invasive annual grass that competes with native vegetation for resources. It grows in the interspace between native plants where it competes for resources, causes an increase in fine fuels and fire frequency, and changes the landscape for sagebrush obligate species.
This treatment is part of a landscape level project to control cheatgrass and limit its spread to protect native vegetation. The project will be treating about 13,000 acres in Sublette County.
