February 13, 2024

Kyla Kay Woffinden was born on February 8, 1956 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Her loving parents were Rulon E. (Shrimp) and Anna Lee (Gray) Woffinden. Kyla was their third child with Keyth Ann being her older sister and Robin G. her older brother. Her younger brother is R. Morell. Kyla passed away on February 10, 2024, after suffering a blood clot on the right side of her brain causing a stroke on her birthday. She passed away in Idaho Falls EIRMC. She had long fought various ailments and disabilities through her life.

Kyla spent her childhood in Big Piney starting on the Pete Fear ranch and later moving to town. She spent lots of time in Grammie’s flower shop. She started her education in kindergarten in Big Piney and went all through the grades graduating in 1974 a true Big Piney Puncher. She knew to this day all the words to the school song and would sing with gusto at the events when they were played!!

She moved to Salt Lake City to continue her education at L.D.S. Business College and worked for the State of Utah and for the University of Utah. She moved to California and worked for IBM for 10+ years and then moved on to Rexburg, Idaho to further her education at Ricks College obtaining her Bachelors degree in Education. She then worked at Madison Jr. High; Jefferson Alternative School; 5C; JCC; and Ricks College. In 2008, she moved back home at the request of her mother and taught at Big Piney Elementary, Big Piney Middle School, and was currently teaching Adult Basic Education through Western Wyoming College.

She was very talented and played the flute; sang with the Melodairs in Rexburg; crocheted; quilted; lead the music in her church ward; spent Sunday afternoon updating her family’s history; and was a 4H leader. She was very interested in politics and the happenings in our government. She spent time listening to podcasts about the government to goat herding in Oklahoma and Diesel Dave in-between times. She was a very generous, funny, spiritual, intelligent person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. As one of her doctors put it, "she was a character!" She loved cheering on her nieces and nephews in their various activities and sporting events. She held various callings and positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She survived by her siblings Keyth and Morell (wife Melanie). Sister-in-law Denise Woffinden. Keyth’s sons Jared (Heidi) Phillips; Clint Phillips; John (Amber) Wintermote; Seth Wintermote; and Jordon Cooper (significant other Paige Phalen). She also leaves behind Darby (Ryun) Trevino; Devoni Woffinden; Gary (significant other Melissa), Warren and LaTisha Phillips; Michael Alan Phillips; Nevaeh and Xavier Layton, Zoey Keller, Skylair, Brilee and Silas Wintermote. Also Gavin Philips and Aria Fischer.

Those waiting for her on the other side are her parents; brother, Robin; Grandparents Muriel and Donald Gray; Ernest and Viola Woffinden; great grandfather George Hopkins; niece Sierra Phillips and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday February 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the Big Piney L.D.S. Church with viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Plainview Cemetery.
