ERAP update
Emergency Rental Assistance Program
by Wyoming Department of Family Services
December 5, 2021
Are you struggling to pay your utility bills? Many Wyoming households are worried about having their heat shut off this winter, especially with rising energy bills. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) can help eligible Wyoming renters pay their utility bills. Under ERAP, eligible renters can apply for rent assistance only, utility assistance only, or both rent and utility assistance.
Another program to consider is the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), which helps low- and fixed-income families and individuals pay their heating bills during the winter months. The federally-funded program gives priority to households that include elderly (60+), disabled and/or young children (5 and under).
In Wyoming, utility providers cannot discontinue service for non-payment if temperatures are forecast to be below 32 degrees in the next 48 hours and you are actively seeking government assistance. Don't wait for a shut-off notice to ask for help! If you are past due and may not be able to make payment, apply for assistance today.
As of Dec 2, ERAP has approved a total of 4,783 applications, paying a total of $12.6M in assistance. Of the rental payments, $9.9M went to landlords, $1.9M to renters and $789K to utilities.
