Flash Flood Watch for Wyoming Range and Wind River Mountains
by National Weather Service
September 21, 2016

A large upper level Low will move slowly East towards Wyoming Thursday into Thursday night. A very moist airmass will be drawn northward ahead of this storm system which will increase the potential for significant rainfall in the western mountains Thursday into Thursday night. Even the lower elevations west of the Continental Divide will have the potential for significant rainfall. Recent fire burn scars will be susceptible to Flash Flooding.

Areas included in this Flash Flood Watch include portions of central and western Wyoming, Wind River Mountains, Absaroka Mountains, Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, Yellowstone National Park and the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges.

One to two inches of rain possible with locally higher amounts possible across all of the western Mountains.

Significant rainfall on recent wildfire burn scars will be highly susceptible to flash flooding but other areas will also have the potential to flood if heavy rain persists over one area.

The public is advised to monitor later weather forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Hunters heading to the Backcountry should be prepared for much wetter and cooler conditions.
