Museum launches new informational website about famous mountain man attacked by grizzly bear
December 15, 2015
The Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale has just launched a new informational website about Hugh Glass, the mountain man who survived being mauled by a grizzly bear in 1823 in what is today South Dakota. His story has been told and retold many times, however the actual historical accounts are unclear on a lot of the specific details as to the people involved, locations, and actual sequence of events. A new Hollywood movie, The Revenant, will be released in just a couple of weeks with a fictionalized version of the story which the Museum expects will create new interest in finding out more about the real story.
The Museum’s media release says: "You have heard the story, now get the facts. The Museum of the Mountain Man is proud to announce the release of its new website, www.hughglass.org. The site features the real story of the unforgettable Hugh Glass shedding light on the myths, legends and chronicles of his astounding adventures in the American West. Visit www.hughglass.org to get the true story."
The Museum of the Mountain Man is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the mountain man, rendezvous, and Rocky Mountain fur trade era of the early 1800s.
