Mosquito Fogging and Water Usage Update
by Town of Pinedale
August 3, 2015

Attention Bee Keepers and citizens. Weather permitting; mosquito fogging will take place August 2nd and 3rd. Just to be on the safe side—this is also a good time to keep kids and pets indoors, and limit your activity in affected areas.

Let’s talk about water use. Have you noticed how much you are using? Your water use is now shown on the front of your water bill. While we are not billing based on use right now, knowing and understanding your water use is important. Did you know that the average Wyoming house uses 505 gallons of water per day? Irrigation, washing dishes and laundry, showers, and toilet flushing are some common water uses in every household.

Americans use more water each day by flushing the toilet than they do by showering or any other activity. A running toilet can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day.

While we all want green lawns—irrigation may be a leading contributor to your water use. The average garden hose puts out 2-5 gallons per minute. Therefore, if you keep your hose on for 24 hours you are up to 7200 gallons in one day, or up to 50,400 gallons in a week-per hose.

If your water use seems excessively high on your water bill, it may be because of a running toilet, a leaky faucet, or your irrigation cycle. We aren’t asking you to stop using water, however, be aware of these basic uses. Please remember that we are not billing you based on your water use, we are in the process of compiling the data to provide fare rates for when your bill does reflect water use. Our goal is to use the current water use numbers to establish base rates, which will account for lawn irrigation and water bleeding.

As we progress toward a billing system that will cause extra water usage fees, should you exceed what is considered normal usage, we want you to become more water wise so you can avoid any extra water usage fees.

Our water comes from Fremont Lake. Remember to keep the lake clean, be conscious of your water use, properly dispose of contaminants, and we will continue to have an inexpensive, plentiful supply of our uncommonly good water for generations to come.
