Packer Creek fire update, Saturday, August 3, 7:45AM: The Packer Creek fire is burning in heavy timber on the Bridger-Teton National Forest near the Rim, approximately 22 miles north of Daniel Junction. It is west of the Flying A Ranch. It is west of the Flying A Ranch. Approximately ten structures are within a mile of the blaze.

Firefighters are working to fully suppress this fire, and structure protection is in place at the Flying A ranch. There are no evacuations at the Flying A ranch at this time, according to a 9:13AM update from Fire Public Information Officer, Lauren McKeever.

The fire is reported to be approximately 90 acres this morning (as of an 8:24AM update). The fire was active through the night with running and single tree torching.

50 people are currently on the fire. Resources on scene: 1 FS engine, 5 Sublette County engines, 1 Type I hand crew, 8 Smokejumpers, 2 Type III Helicopters, 1 Type I Heli-Tanker, 1 fixed wing Air Attack3 SEATs (Single Engine Airtankers), 3 Air Tankers. Assets including Interagency smoke jumpers, Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management personnel, and Sublette County volunteer firefighters. and aircraft from Idaho include helicopters with water buckets and air tankers dropping retardant. Three Type 3 hand crews have been ordered. A Type 3 Incident Management Team has been ordered and will take over today.

The Packer Miner Road is closed at the Forest Boundary for public safety. Law enforcement closed Forest Roads 609, 608, and 607 at the Forest Boundary Friday.

The fire was reported on Friday, August 2nd. The cause is unknown. Heavy lightning was occurring in the region at the time of the fire. The Forest Service Twitter account notes a comment they have found many abandoned campfires on the forest and they remind visitors to make sure their campfires are dead out before leaving the area.

Fire danger is currently rated Moderate on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. No fire restrictions are currently in effect on the Forest.
