Pinedale BLM releases Hydrogeologic Data Gaps report for the Pinedale Anticline
by Bureau of Land Management
May 22, 2012
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office, in cooperation with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency, Region 8, is releasing the first of four groundwater monitoring reports completed as part of the Interim Groundwater/Aquifer Pollution Prevention, Mitigation and Monitoring plan as required by the Pinedale Anticline (PAPA) Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) Record of Decision (ROD).
The Hydrogeological Data Gaps (HDG) report discusses regional aquifer characteristics including general water quality characteristics, flow gradients, basin water budget, and surface water/groundwater interaction.
A revised hydrogeological conceptual site model is presented along with a synthesis of all available and newly collected information. The report results will be used to inform the public and agency decision makers as work progresses towards the completion of three additional reports.
The following three reports are slated for a late 2012/early 2013 release: Low Level Petroleum Hydrocarbon Compound source and evaluation report, a Numerical Groundwater Modeling report, and a Mitigation Measures report documenting the evaluation of potential pollution prevention controls or Best Management Practices for future and ongoing water sampling events, oil and gas development, and water well installation, operation and maintenance.
These documents will be used in the development of a revised groundwater-monitoring program, to be presented under a Final Plan.
The Final Plan is targeted for public release in late 2012/early 2013.
