The Cody region of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department encompasses all of the Big Horn Basin and there is a game warden stationed in each of the major communities found therein. There are nine wardens total.

To help assist with the growing work load and the supervision of the Cody region game wardens, the Game and Fish’s wildlife division administration requested that former Greybull resident Scott Werbelow, consider moving his game warden supervisor position in Pinedale to Cody—a move Werbelow readily accepted.

Werbelow is no stranger to the basin. He graduated from Greybull High School in 1986 and first worked for the Game and Fish as a damage technician in April of 1993. His main task was to assist landowners in preventing wildlife damage to standing and stored crops, primarily in the Big Horn Basin.

In November of 1996, he accepted a job in Pinedale as a contract feedground manager/game warden. He became a permanent Game and Fish employee in 1998 as a feedground manager/game warden. While in Pinedale, he supervised the operation of 11 elk feedgrounds with oversight of all 22 feedgrounds in terms of facility maintenance and draft horse management. He was appointed the Pinedale-Jackson game warden supervisor in May of 2004.

During his time in Pinedale he was appointed to the Governor's Brucellosis Coordination Team to deal with an outbreak of brucellosis in the Pinedale elk herd. He continues to serve on that team as a "Technical Adviser."

"I'm very excited about the opportunity to move back home and work with some of the finest wildlife managers and work in some of the most wild and remote country on earth," Werbelow said. "I look forward to working with sportsmen, landowners, and outfitters to better manage our wildlife resource and preserve it for future generations."
