Student Art Show
by Tim Ruland, Pinedale Fine Arts Council
June 1, 2010
The Pinedale Fine Arts Council hosted a student art show on Thursday May 27 at the Sublette County Library. On display was ceramic work produced by Pinedale High School art students during a two-week PFAC residency with artist Steve Shrepferman of Cody, Wyoming.
In addition to displaying some amazing work by local students, PFAC also presented its annual millennium arts award to PHS senior Kelsi Sluyter. Kelsi's winning "backpack" concept, consisting of a small sculpture of a backpack to represent "the different aspects and stages of life" will be cast this summer and added to the PHS Millennium Arts sculpture in front of the high school.
Thirty-five students participated in this year's Millennium Arts Award competition with each student submitting a drawing/painting concept and an essay describing the work. Kelsi received a $300 gif card for art supplies from Dick Blick.
All of the students’ ceramic pieces will be on display at the library as well as community members art work produced during PFAC evening ceramic workshops also taught by Shrepferman.
PFAC would like to extend a huge thanks to PHS art teacher Diane Maclean for her help and support in facilitating the residency.
