Yellowstone entrance fee waived during National Park Week
April 17-25, 2010
by Yellowstone National Park
April 13, 2010

Early spring visitors to Yellowstone National Park will be able to enter for free during National Park Week, which will be celebrated April 17 through April 25 this year.

All entrance fees, including commercial tour entrance fees and transportation entrance fees, will be waived during this period. A seven-day pass to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks is normally $25 for a private, non-commercial vehicle.

National Park Week is an annual celebration designed to encourage people to visit one of the 392 units of the National Park Service in order to reconnect with nature and their heritage.

The road from Gardiner, Montana, through the park's North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs to Cooke City, Montana, is open to automobiles all year, weather permitting. Starting Friday, April 16, visitors will also be able to travel from the North and West Entrances to Norris, Madison, Canyon and Old Faithful. Visitors need to plan for construction delays and overnight closures on the road between Norris and Madison.

Very limited visitor services will be available during the next several weeks. The Visitor Center and the Snow Lodge Geyser Grill at Old Faithful open for the season on April 16, as do the Canyon Adventure Store and the West Yellowstone Visitor Information Center. Gasoline will be available inside the park using 24-hour pay at the pump at Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction, Canyon, and Old Faithful. The Yellowstone General Store, clinic, campground, and Albright Visitor Center in Mammoth Hot Springs are open all year.

Yellowstone's weather is very unpredictable. Visitors should be prepared for a wide range of winter and spring weather conditions, including plows clearing snow from the roads, and temporary road closures. Updated Yellowstone National Park road information is available 24 hours a day by calling 307-344-2117.
