Yellowstone Park winter season drawing to a close
by Yellowstone National Park
March 4, 2010

Yellowstone’s winter oversnow travel season is winding down. Limited, managed, snowmobile and snowcoach travel on the park's interior roads is scheduled to end by Monday evening, March 15.

Motorized oversnow travel between the park’s East Entrance and Fishing Bridge over Sylvan Pass ended Monday evening, March 1.

The road from Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris Junction is scheduled to close to motorized oversnow travel on Sunday evening, March 7. Snowmobile and snowcoach travel between Madison, Norris, and Canyon ends Tuesday evening, March 9; while travel on the road from Canyon through the Hayden Valley to Fishing Bridge concludes Sunday night, March 14. Motorized oversnow travel from West Yellowstone and the South Entrance to Old Faithful is scheduled to end Monday evening, March 15.

Deteriorating snow conditions may require the park to temporarily limit or change some vehicle access during the final days of the winter season.

Once the roads close to oversnow travel; crews begin to clear them of snow so they can reopen to automobile travel in the spring.

The road from Gardiner, Montana, through the park's North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs to Cooke City, Montana, is open to automobiles all year, weather permitting.

Updated Yellowstone National Park road information is available 24 hours a day by calling 307-344-2117.
