In my last article I shared some fast facts about the Health Care District (HCD) and the many qualifications of our staff. In a recent Care Corner, I gave the hourly starting wage for our staff positions. The HCD has historically been in a difficult position in terms of not having the appropriately qualified staff to perform the clinical services we provide and the management professionals to make it all work. For the past three years, we have had to actively recruit technicians, registered nurses, managers and especially physicians to move to Pinedale and Marbleton/Big Piney.
A unique aspect of healthcare is having a provider and clinical staff on-call 24/7/365. Our physicians are on-call for 15 hours one out of every four weeknights, in addition to the four, 10 hour days in the clinic. They are also on-call one out of every five weekends for 63 hours each time. Because of the large amount of time they put in to being there when we need them, our average physician makes $58/hour. That’s an interesting figure when you compare them to a plumber or electrician that makes more than that per hour. If we eliminated the on-call hours, based on a 40 hour work week, the physicians average $103/hour. Our Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistant are in a similar on-call situation. These Non Physician Providers average $66/hour before you include their weekday and weekend on-call hours. Our other on-call clinical staff average: RN-$30/hr, Lab Tech-$30/hr, X-ray Tech-$29/hr. Our clinical managers also take call, but are paid based on a 40 hour work week. These managers average: Nursing-$48, Lab-$62 per hour.
Our management professionals are salaried based on a 40 hour work week. Unlike the providers and clinical staff that take call.
We pay our CEO $84/hour and our CFO $77/hour.
The other managers we have are paid the following: Patient Accounts-$37/hr EMS-$39/hr
Other administrative positions include: Human Resources-$34/hr Accounts Payable-$23/hr
It’s because of highly qualified and trained professionals like these that we are able to provide such a high level of medical care here in Sublette County. We are dedicated to our patients and look forward to serving you for years to come.
