The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be holding a series of winter workshops for persons interested in becoming one of Wyoming’s volunteer instructors and for existing instructors to maintain their active status.
Hunter education coordinator Jim Dawson commended Wyoming’s 400 volunteer instructors for their service in Wyoming’s hunter education program. "As with all teachers, some continuing education is periodically required to keep people up to date," Dawson said.
Dawson said the purpose of the workshops is to promote a consistent message statewide and to continue in supporting the professional growth of the membership. "The workshops enable the instructors to become better at sharing their passion for hunting by learning new teaching techniques and become up to date on the equipment and tools used in hunter education," Dawson said.
Even though some of the dates and locations have yet to be finalized, seating is limited. Dawson said they are putting out the word now to gauge the interest in those wanting to participate. The workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at these locations:
Feb. 6 Torrington - Goshen County Sportsmen’s Club (Apr. 24-tentative) - Evanston (June 26-tentative) - Pinedale
In addition, there is a new instructor academy scheduled July 16-18 at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp in Dubois. The new instructor academy is free and is required of all new instructors. Those interested in becoming instructors or wanting more information on the workshops can call Margaret James at 307-777-4358 or Jim Dawson at 307-777-4531.
