Fed energy officials decline to attend Wyoming energy symposium

The Casper Star-Tribune posted an article on Wednesday (Oct. 14) saying that several big-name federal government officials responsible for overseeing energy development in the country have declined to attend the Western States Energy and Environment Symposium which will be held in Jackson, Wyoming October 25-27. The symposium will work to bring public officials, key stakeholders and decision-makers together to examine state energy policies from a regional perspective and work towards establishing a common regional vision.

Declining the invitation to attend were U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu, and New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman, chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and National Resources Committee.

Wyoming is a significant producer of natural gas, oil and coal energy which brings millions of dollars to the federal government coffers each year in tax revenue from the extracting of these resources.
