Pig Wrestling

The Double D Pig Wrestling took place on Sunday, July 26th. There were categories for kids 8 and Under, Youth age 9-15, Women and Men. Each team can have up to four people. Pigs are sized for the contestants. Little kids chase piglets. Teenagers and women got medium size pigs. Adult men got larger hogs to wrestle into barrels.
Each team has one minute to catch their pig and place it into the barrel in the middle of the pen. They have to put the pig into the barrel "butt first". To make things challenging, the pen is filled with slippery clay mud and water and the pig is smeared with the same slippery substance, making it difficult to stand up in the arena without falling and hard to hang on to the squealing pigs.
Teams in each age class are auctioned off prior to each group wrestling. Prize winners get a jackpot of the entry fees plus Calcutta earnings. There is also a prize for the team with the best costume. Some of the teams auctioned off for hundreds of dollars.
