WARN Health Alert - – Simulated Message #2
Pandemic Flu Alert (this is only a practice exercise – there is no real health alert)
by Pinedale Online in cooperation with Sublette County Public Health
March 2, 2009

Editor’s Note: Pinedale Online is participating in the Sublette County Pandemic Infrastructure Protection Tabletop Exercise. The alert message below is a simulation. We are posting it as part of our role disseminating alert messages from state and county health officials to media. There is no real health alert. In the event of a real alert, a press release would be issued by health officials and we would post it here on Pinedale Online. Sublette County Public Health Officials, medical staff, EMS personnel and local media are all working together to fine tune our roles and ability to react in the event of a real medical emergency. The Sublette County Pandemic Protection Tabletop Exercise will be held on Wednesday, March 4th at the Pinedale Ambulance Barn. "How will your organization/company/municipality continue to provide services during a pandemic event with 40% of your workforces unavailable?" For more information contact Mary Lynn Worl, Sublette County Pandemic Flu Coordinator. 307-367-4309, mlworl@centurytel.net, or call Sublette County Public Health at 307-367-2157.

EXERCISE MESSAGE #2

Wyoming Department of Health

Health Alert Network - ALERT

Month XX, XXXX -PHASE 4 EXERCISE

Outbreak of Influenza (H5NX) in the United States
THIS IS A SIMULATED SITUATION

Background
As of January 25, 2009 there have been reports of 20 laboratory-confirmed human cases due to the novel Influenza (H5NX) within the United States. This novel strain is responsible for the influenza pandemic that is affecting many other countries and is rapidly spreading around the world. The majority of the cases in the U.S. are among those ages 1- 40 in the Northeastern part of the United States. The (H5NX) strain has emerged as a new influenza virus for which people have little or no immunity, and for which there is no current vaccine. The disease spreads easily from person-to-person, it causes serious respiratory illness, and it is spreading across Canada and the Northeastern parts of the United States affecting at least seven states. The novel influenza virus has not been detected in Wyoming yet; however it is a near certainty that it will soon appear in Wyoming. Therefore it is critical that healthcare providers adhere to the following recommendations from the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) in order to detect the virus in WY at its earliest appearance. THIS IS A SIMULATED SITUATION
