Editor’s Note: Pinedale Online is participating in the Sublette County Pandemic Infrastructure Protection Tabletop Exercise. The alert message below is only a simulation, for exercise purposes in our role posting alert messages from health officials. The message below is simulated. There is no real health alert. In the event of a real alert, a similar alert message would be distributed by health officials to media outlets and we would post it here on Pinedale Online. Sublette County Public Health Officials, medical staff, EMS personnel and local media are all working together to fine tune our roles and ability to react in the event of a real medical emergency. The Sublette County Pandemic Protection Tabletop Exercise will be held on Wednesday, March 4th at the Pinedale Ambulance Barn. "How will your organization/company/municipality continue to provide services during a pandemic event with 40% of your workforces unavailable?" Outbreak of Influenza (H5NX) in Egypt

Background
As of December 19, 2008 there have been reports of 30 laboratory-confirmed human cases due to the novel Influenza (H5NX). The majority of these cases are among children, farmers, oil field workers from Faiyum, Beni Suef, and Cairo, Egypt. However, children, farmers, oil field workers from other areas of Egypt have also been identified as probable or confirmed cases. At this time, there has been sustained human-to-human transmission of the disease. The (H5NX) strain has emerged as a new influenza virus for which people have little or no immunity, and for which there is no current vaccine. The disease spreads easily from person-to-person; it causes serious respiratory illness, and it is sweeping across northern Egypt rapidly. The international health community feels the likelihood of a global outbreak (pandemic) is great.
