(Pinedale) – Grab your dancing shoes and plan on rocking the night away at Rock Rabbit Saturday, January 31,2009 from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. for the A"Maze"ing Gayle Memorial Benefit. This is the community's opportunity to fund raise for the Gayle McMurry Kinnison Memorial Labyrinth, which is located in the new wing of the Sublette County Library on 155 S. Tyler Ave, and is slated to be unveiled later this spring.
In case you were wondering: Labyrinths are ancient designs found in many cultures around the world. People walk labyrinths for many reasons. Some do it to relax, some as a walking meditation, some just for fun. There is no right or wrong way to walk labyrinths. They are not designed to confuse or bewilder. There are no blind alleys, no wrong turns and you cannot get lost in it. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and you will safely get to the center and back out again.
"Gayle was an exceptional philanthropist who gave crucial and continuing support to keep innumerable organizations in this town alive and flourishing," said Sublette County Library Director, Daphne Platts. "We see this Labyrinth as an extension of Gayle's work, a place to find peace or comfort, and we are honored to be able to dedicate it to her name".
The event is meant for all ages and kicks off with a Kids Cake Walk at 4 p.m. Teens and teens at heart will be dancing along with Dance,Dance Revolution in the early evening and DJ, Ben Davis will start spinning at 7 p.m. Dan Abernathy, long time friend of Gayle's and owner of Rock Rabbit on 23 West Pine will be serving up some of Gayle's favorite drinks and menu items and donating half of the evening's menu proceeds to the memorial fund.
There are a wide variety of fun ways one can contribute at the benefit like a Silent Auction for the privilege to dance with some of the community's more infamous members, or you can purchase shout-outs, song requests, or a Two Left Feet Coupon that frees you from dancing all night.
And as a special treat, memorabilia from Gayle's own "Bottoms Up Brewery" will be auctioned off throughout the night.
Additionally, individuals can fill a dance card by registering their friends to make a donation and pledge to dance at least once over the course of the night. Blank dance cards will be available at Rock Rabbit that evening or they can be picked up ahead of time at the library and other locations around town. The dancer with the highest amount of pledges raised will receive special recognition during the Labyrinth dedication and the honor of being first to walk the labyrinth.
And remember: All benefits of getting funky go straight to your soul and all proceeds go directly to the Gayle McMurry Kinnison Memorial Labyrinth. If you cannot attend but would like to contribute to this event please feel free to send a donation of any amount to the Sublette County Library Foundation on behalf of Gayle's Labyrinth.
This is an animated event the community is sure to be talking about for a long time; you don't want to miss it! For more information call Ana Cuprill or Juli Winthers at the Sublette County Library in Pinedale at 307-367-4114.
