Snow Advisory
3-10 inches possible in mountains; Valleys 1-2 inches
by National Weather Service
June 10, 2008

The National Weather Service has issued a Snow Advisory for western and northern mountains in Wyoming through midnight Tuesday. Snow will fall today and this evening. Snow levels will be between 8500 to 9000 feet.

A band of showers and thunderstorms will develop early this afternoon along a strong cold front and track southeast across Wyoming throughout the afternoon. These showers will have the potential to produce wind gusts of 50 mph along with some cloud to ground lightning strikes. Small hail is also possible. Two to four inches of snowfall will occur across most of the mountains above 9000 feet in the colder air behind the cold front later today (Tuesday) and tonight.

A secondary trough behind today’s cold front will reinforce the unseasonable surge of colder air Wednesday. This trough will produce 3 to 6 inches of snowfall in the mountains above 7500 feet and 6 to 8 inches of snow above 8500 feet Wednesday and Wednesday night. There will be local amounts of 10 inches across the higher mountains. Even the Jackson valley will likely receive 1 to 2 inches of snow during this time frame along with 2 to 3 inches of snowfall in the northern portion of the valley. In addition, small hail is likely with some of the showers Wednesday afternoon along with some isolated thunderstorms.
