The Denver Post had an interesting article last Wednesday saying that 30% of Denver’s smog problem may come from outdated valves creating leaks on thousands of wells from northeastern Colorado drilling. Gas companies are realizing that it is cheaper to replace the seeping and leaking valves and capture the escaping gas than to allow the “fugitive emissions.”

EnCana will spend $1.5 million on pollution control there this year, according to the article, retrofitting older wells, upgrading combustors and installing better equipment.
