Draft EIS for Moxa Arch Energy Development Project released
Kemmerer BLM
by Bureau of Land Managment
October 14, 2007

The Bureau of Land Management released its Notice of Availability (NOA) to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Moxa Arch Area Infill Gas Development Project. The 60-day review and public comment period begins ends on Dec. 10, 2007.

“We want and need the public to review this Draft EIS and the proposed alternatives and to provide comments to assist the BLM in crafting a preferred alternative,” said Michele Easley, Moxa Arch EIS project lead.

This DEIS analyzes impacts based on an infill drilling proposal for the475,808-acre Moxa Arch Development project area in Lincoln, Sweetwater, and Uinta Counties in Wyoming.

The proposal, submitted by energy operators, is a long-term development plan which includes drilling approximately 1,861 additional wells at the rate of about 186 wells per year. The plan would occur over a period of 10 years, or until the resource base is fully developed. The average anticipated life of a well is expected to be 40 years.

Anticipated natural gas reserves produced over the life of the project is approximately 3 trillion cubic feet. Along with this important energy resource, the proposed project area has been identified as crucialwinter range for antelope, and elk, as well as habitat for other wildlife.

The BLM, local, state, and federal cooperators have worked together to develop a range of reasonable management alternatives listed in the DEIS to meet the purpose and need for the project while providing adequate environmental protections to support habitat needs for wildlife and special status species, maintain air and water quality, and support rangeland resources necessary for continued livestock grazing.

The DEIS is available on the internet at:

Requests for information may be sent electronically to the same e-mail address with “Attention: Moxa Arch DEIS Information Request” in the subject line.
