The Pig Wrestling and Greased Pig competitions are held on the same night during Fair week, typically on one evening mid-week.
In Pig Wrestling, teams of four people (relatively the same age) compete in the contest. There are prizes awarded for the team with the best costumes. Each team has one minute to catch their pig and put it in the barrel. Pig size and weight is adjusted for the age and size of the teams. Little kids get small, cute (and fast little sucker) piglets, adult males get BIG pigs! There are catefories for age 8 and Under, 9 to 15-year olds, Women and Men. This year's Pig Wrestling competition was sponsored by the Bank of Sublette County.
In the Greased Pig Contest, kids participating understand that if they catch the pig they are agreeing to raise it for the next year and show it in the 2008 Sublette County Fair. Participants must have facilities to keep and raise the pig if they win. Age groups are 8 to 9-year olds, 10 to 11-year-olds, and 12 and over. Winners must join 4-H or FFA. This year's pigs were donated by Randy Belton/Julie's Child Care, Reed's Ready Mix, Cahrlie & Cindy Mitchell, Bridger Speed & Sport, Rio Verde Engineering, and Gene & April Lippincott/Daniel Junction. 2006 Winners were Katelyn Olson, Blue Constance, Ginger Shenefelt, Erica Wolaver, and Baylee Colton. LK Repair/White Tiger Video was an additional sponsor for this year's Greased Pig Contest.
Livestock for the 2007 Sublette County Fair Pig Wrestling was provided by Double D Livestock, LLC.
