The National Weather Service (NWS) out of Riverton issued a Special Weather Statement Wednesday afternoon alerting the public that funnel clouds had been observed in Sublette County. The public and trained spotters reported seeing a couple of funnel clouds. The last funnel cloud was seen around 2:40 PM about a mile and a half west of Highway 191 near the Sublette/Sweetwater County line. Doppler radar showed some weak, disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the area at 2:40 PM.

In the Big Piney-Marbleton area, thunderstorms brought strong wind gusts, rain, hail and lightning between 2PM and 3PM.

The NWS asks the public to report any funnel clouds they see to the National Weather Service in Riverton by calling 1-800-211-1448.

Extended forecast: Monsoonal moisture is expected to increase Thursday into Saturday, and possibly into Sunday, before a strong cold front moves through from the west providing a cooler and drier air mass. Scattered thunderstorm activity will prevail through at least Saturday in most areas. The primary threats will be lightning, gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.
