Big Piney District Ranger Greg Clark of the Bridger-Teton National Forest received a letter last week from the Plains Exploration and Production (PXP) company asking the Forest not to finalize the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and to expand the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review to consider the impacts associated with production. The draft EIS was provided to the public earlier this year and over 19,000 comments were received on the proposal before the close of the comment period on April 30, 2007.

The Forest has been in the process of analyzing the public comments associated with the EIS. In the next several weeks, Ranger Clark will be meeting with representatives from PXP to garner an understanding of what they are asking the Forest to consider in a production alternative in the EIS.
