Green River
The 730-mile long Green River has its beginnings in the Wind River Mountain Range north of Pinedale. Shortly after entering Utah, it flows into Flaming Gorge and is backed up by Flaming Gorge Dam. Pinedale Online file photo.

The Green River ultimately feeds into the Colorado River and into the Gulf of California in Mexico. Heavy use of the river as an irrigation source for the Imperial Valley in California has desiccated the lower course of the Colorado river in Mexico such that it no longer consistently reaches the sea.

A Colorado businessman with a plan to pipe Colorado River water throughout Colorado’s Front Range will present his proposal to the April 9 Upper Green River Joint Power Water Board Meeting at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs in Room 1302 at 1:30 p.m.

According to U.S. Water News, Aaron Million of Fort Collins is proposing to build a 400-mile, $4 billion pipeline from Flaming Gorge to the Front Range. The pipeline would actually be two 42-inch lines to divert water from Flaming Gorge Reservoir, along Wyoming’s I-80 corridor, and south into Colorado.

Million has put together a planning team involving former state water engineers Jeris Danielson of Colorado and Jeff Fassett of Wyoming, as well as former Utah water resources director Larry Anderson. States West of Cheyenne has been retained to handle the permitting process. A team of high-profile water lawyers has been retained as well. To learn more about Million’s proposal, plan to attend the April 9 meeting.
