Bridger-Teton celebrates Earth Day
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
April 25, 2007

(Pinedale) – The Bridger-Teton National Forest Pinedale Ranger District celebrated Earth Day this year with Woodsy Owl at the Pinedale Library. Earth Day was officially on Saturday, April 21, but the Pinedale District celebrated during story time with pre-school children from the immediate area during the week.

This week the featured letter at the library was “T” and the Forest employees focused on trash in their discussions with the children. “We read stories, played games, and ended the morning with Woodsy Owl making an appearance!” said Meredith Malek, Information Assistant for the Pinedale District office.

Woodsy has been the Forest Service’s environmental champion since 1970, and is most recognized for his "Give a hoot. Don't pollute" slogan, which was updated to the current motto of “Lend a Hand and Care for the Land”. Woodsy Owl is a mentor and guide, helping children see the world around them and to appreciate nature. The Pinedale Ranger District uses Woodsy Owl in many of their educational outreach programs to the community. If you are interested in Woodsy making an appearance at your function, contact the Bridger-Teton National Forest at 307-739-5500.
