Winter Storm Watch
5-10 inches snow possible Wednesday and Thursday
January 2, 2007

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Winter Storm Watch for western Wyoming for Wednesday evening through Thursday evening. A strong winter storm will move into western Wyoming Wednesday evening bringing significan snowfall through Thursday evening.

The valleys are expected to get from 5-10 inches of new snow, and mountains may see 8-16 inches. Strong west winds of 30-40 mph, with gusts to 60 mph, will create significant blowing snow at ridge tops and mountain pass levels. South to southwest winds in the valleys of 15-25 mph, with higher gusts, are expected.

Highway and airport runways will likely become snow packed with drifting and blowing snow in spots.

This storm has the potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Drivers are urged to monitor weather and road condition reports before traveling.
