January 31, 2007
The Pinedale Stage Stop of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) took place Sunday and Monday, January 29-30. Pinedale is one of eleven towns that serve as "stages" for the annual race. Other towns include Jackson, Lander, Big Piney-Marbleton, Alpine, Kemmerer-Diamondville, Evanston, Mountain View and Lyman.
The race began in Jackson Hole on January 26 and concludes in Park City, Utah, on February 3rd. Major sponsor for the event is Pedigree Food for Dogs, which generously donates pet food to local animal shelters in the particpating towns.
This year, Pinedale had only one day of racing, from the Upper Green River Lakes area along the Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail into Pinedale, approximately 35 miles. The Finish Line was at the American Legion Park on the west end of Pinedale.
The town hosted a "Meet the Mushers" community dinner at Rendezvous Pointe Senior Center on Sunday evening, catered by Bottoms Up Brewery in Pinedale. Live music was provided by Jackson band Global Review. Earlier in the day, the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce hosted a Doggie Fashion Show at the Sublette Center.
Special thanks to Michael and Sherese Kudar, and Sublette County Tourism Board Director Mindi Crabb, who served as the Community Chairpeople for the Pinedale Stage Stop, and to Kim Andrews, Director of the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce, for their work to organize and coordinate this year's Pinedale Stage Stop of the IPSSSDR.
