BLM seeks public comment in the Sensitive Viewshed Management Area and Mesa Breaks for the Pinedale Anticline
by Bureau of Land Management
August 3, 2006

(Pinedale) The BLM Office in Pinedale is asking the public for input to the proposed Stewart Point drilling projects in the Sensitive Viewshed Management Area (MA-4) and the Mesa Breaks (MA-2) as designated through the Pinedale Anticline Record of Decision (ROD).

Planning for wells within these management areas requires additional public involvement and monitoring under the Adaptive Environmental Management (AEM) planning process. Questar Exploration and Production has proposed up to 30 wells from 5 drill pads, three and a half miles southwest of Pinedale.

As specified in the Pinedale Anticline ROD, the BLM will solicit public input during the Application for Permit to Drill (APD) process for wells located in MA-2 and MA-4. The Pinedale BLM Office will accept comments in person, by mail, or through the Pinedale BLM’s Public Mailbox on the internet. The office will accept comments until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2006.

"It’s important that everyone who has an interest in this project provide their input to help us make sound decisions," said Jim Lucas, BLM Pinedale project coordinator.

Pinedale BLM is also offering the public a chance to participate in an on-site review tour of the proposed drill pads. The tour begins at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the Pinedale BLM office. BLM will lead the tour, but participants need to provide their own transportation.

The Pinedale BLM is located at 432 East Mill Street, Pinedale, Box 768, Pinedale, Wyoming, 82941. To provide comments via e-mail, use the following BLM address: pinedale_wymail@blm.gov. Please include in the subject line: QEP Stewart Point.

These wells are the Stewart Point 16-20, located in SESE, Section 20, T. 33 N., R. 109 W.; the Stewart Point 4-21, located in NWNW, Section 21, T. 33 N., R. 109 W.; the Stewart Point 11-21, located in NESW, Section 21, T. 33 N., R. 109 W.; the Stewart Point 7-28, located in SWNE, Section 28, T. 33 N., R. 109 W.; and the Stewart Point 6-29, located in SENW, Section 29, T. 33 N., R. 109 W. The five well pad locations would fall in a Sensitive Viewshed (MA-4) Management Area and in the Mesa Breaks (MA-2) as identified in the Pinedale Anticline Environmental Impact Statement and Record of Decision for the Pinedale Anticline Oil and Gas Project.

For more information concerning this project, please contact Jim Lucas at (307) 367-5361.
