Sunny days on tap for Chuckwagon Days & Rendezvous
Possible afternoon thunderstorms
June 29, 2006

The weather looks to be gorgeous for Chuckwagon Days and the 4th of July in Big Piney and Pinedale! We’re in our typical summer pattern of clear and sunny in the mornings with clouds building up in the afternoons for possible thundershowers. Plan your picnics and outings for early in the day. Clouds build up and storms can roll in by noon, so mornings are the time for the best outdoor weather.

Daytime temperatures should be in the high 70s and 80s until mid next week. Nights will dip down to the 40s and 50s, which means those who aren’t used to our high mountain weather might want to bring clothes to layer for the evening and night-time hours.

Afternoon and evening showers will continue to be possible each afternoon from Friday through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service out of Riverton. Thunderstorms could come with frequent lightning, brief heavy rain, and wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour.

The forecast is for an onset of a prolonged period of hot weather next Wednesday with temperatures expected to climb into the 90s. We may even see our first 100 degree temps of the summer in some areas of Wyoming.

Fire danger is starting to climb with the warm temperatures and dry weather. The Bridger-Teton National Forest raised the fire danger from Low to MEDIUM this week. No restrictions are in effect yet in Sublette County, but be sure to keep an eye on the weather and fire danger as summer progresses for any trips you have planned to our area. Note that fireworks are not allowed on National Forest or BLM land. We haven’t heard of restrictions in the county yet, but they do it every year, so we expect some announcement soon to the effect.

The volunteer fire departments with Pinedale and Big Piney put on awesome town fireworks displays on the 4th of July, so you’ll still get to see a great show for Independence Day. The towns should also be spraying for mosquitos right around the 1st of July, as weather permits, so the bugs shouldn’t be too bad in town. You can see the fireworks show from most anywhere in town. They shoot them off from the ball park up by the Pinedale Clinic. People like to park in Faler’s parking lot or the elementary school lot to have a community gathering view of the show. Anyplace with a view of the hill east of town should give you a good view of the fireworks.

Also, don’t miss the Pinedale Town picnic at the American Legion Park on the 4th. Pinedale does a low key 4th of July since it’s Big Piney’s big weekend for Chuckwagon Days. We get our turn the following weekend for Rendezvous Days. If you’re in Pinedale, head over to the park for free food and fun socialization to celebrate the 4th, compliments of the Town of Pinedale!
