Why We Love Pinedale-Visitor Comment
March 30, 2006
We often get e-mails from folks writing to tell us about their trips to the area and answering our question of, “Why I love Pinedale”. Here are excerpts from a lengthy one that came in on Tuesday from some folks in Illinois who belong to the High Altitude Special Interest Group of the Aliner Owners Club.
"Originally we discovered a picture of Ole Squaretop in a Readers Digest book on travel destinations and decided to look it up in 1980 or 81. The first time we car camped only and after that we returned to carcamp and back pack or canoe. We also dayhiked to a number of locations in the Green River Lakes area... We also remember the Paulsons from the Great Outdoor Shop and their hospitality. McGregor’s pub was super as well. Who can forget Faler’s Grocery. The 1983 or so Green River Rendezvous Pageant is still on one of our video tapes. We also remember a humourous bear encounter one June while backpacking between the Lower and Upper Lake... It's been about 3 or 4 years since we have visited last and it's been great to keep up by means of an excellent web site that tells us that regular gas for right now is cheaper than in Illinois or simply uopdates us on what's going on… We also own a rather dated copy of a videotape that we bought at the chamber of Commerce and sport a big poster of Ole Sqauretop in our bedroom along with pictures from our many visits. TIME TO RETURN... For 2006 we will hold a small (10 units maximum) MT.RENDEZVOUS ALINER RALLY at a campground near Pinedale. We are planning for a joint meal at probably McGregor's Pub, visit the Museum Of the Mountain Men, but unfortunetately not at the time of the pageant. The 3-day rally follows a 3-day Pioneer Trail rally from Casper, via Lander to Pinedale. With friendly greetings from Illinois. K. K."
