Two firefighting crews have left. Two crews plus a helicopter and hel-attack crew remain to help with mop up on the Half Moon fire. Another new start was found yesterday several miles east of Boulder Lake in the wilderness and is being manned. The Boulder Lake trail is currently closed due to this fire, which is approximately 6 acres in size. Another start, approximately 1/10th of an acre, is located in the Upper Green River by Slide Lake, and is also currently being manned. Elkhart Park and the Skyline Drive road are open with access to Pole Creek trail. Long Lake & Glimpse Lake trails will remain closed because of the Triangle fire. Two 20-man crews will remain on the Half Moon fire through tomorrow. Half Moon Resort is open for guests. The road is open but restricted to homeowners and Half Moon Lake Resort personnel and guests. The forest-wide ban on all open fires remains in effect. Fire danger remains extremely high. Things look very good for both the Triangle and Half Moon fires. Triangle is burning within acceptable boundaries and mop up continues on Half Moon. Revised Half Moon/Triangle Closure Map (56 K) 8/20/2000 Nearby fire news:
The Prospect fire on south Horse Creek in the Big Piney District is approximately 1/10th acres in size and is being manned by 4 firefighters. With the closure of the Elkhart Park trailhead, many of our local outfitters & guides have had to either reroute scheduled trips or cancel certain ones into the wilderness. This has had a significant impact economically on many of these businesses, who rely on this season economically. We'd like to put in another "Shameless Plug" to encourage visitors to visit our Outfitters & Guides page as well as the Guest Ranches & Lodges page to get more information about these fine folks and link to their web sites. Boulder Lake Lodge is the most recent now to be impacted from a closure due to a fire near their lodge. O'Kelly Outfitting, Elk Ridge Lodge Outfitters and others have had to scramble to reroute their scheduled trips into the wilderness. Please visit the web sites of these folks and check out what they have to offer! |
To date, there have not been any fire related accidents for either
the Half Moon or Triangle Lakes fires. Anyone with concerns can contact
the Sublette County Sheriff's office at 307-367-4376, or the Pinedale Ranger
District, 307-367-4326. Hikers in the wilderness who may have cell phones
and can get a signal out can call 911 and ask to be routed to the Sublette
County Sheriff's office if they have concerns.
Because of all the fire activity going on, we have created a new site that has broader information about what is going on with fires on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. www.bridgertetonnationalforest.com We are working very closely with the Forest Service on the information on this site and updating it frequently. This site will soon transition over to a site at www.tetonfires.com which we are designing to encompass the broader multi-agency scope of these fires which now include Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. This site will be up shortly. More area fire graphics:
