"Just be careful out there." Things look very good for both the Triangle and Half Moon fires. Triangle is burning within acceptable boundaries and mop up continues on Half Moon. The Area Closure for the Elkhart Park area has been lifted and the Skyline Drive road is open again to public access into the wilderness. The Long Lake & Glimpse Lake trails will remain closed because of the Triangle fire, which is still burning and being called 50% contained. Visitors are being asked to be very careful going back out into the backcountry. Even though there haven't been any fire-related injuries, the District has been involved in several rescues in the past 6 days in addition to their attention to the fires. A climber had to be rescued by the Sublette County High Angle Search & Resuce team after a fall on Stroud Peak. Yesterday we received word that another victim was found in another unrelated incident, this one a fatality. No details are available about this accident. Fires can start anywhere and at any time in the backcountry. When asked about letting visitors back into the wilderness under these extreme fire conditions, Timo Rova, Incident Commander for the Half Moon/Triangle fires, said, "Just be careful out there." Two more smoke reports were called in today. A new lightning sleeper fire popped up today near Lovatt Lake approximately 2 miles east of Boulder Lake in the wilderness area, believed to be from last night's lightning. 15 District people are on that fire, which was reported to be about 6 acres tonight. The 2nd fire is on the Big Piney District between Prospect Peak and Gunsight Pass. No information was available about that smoke this evening. The Type II Team left today returning management of the fires to the local level. The four 20-man crews will remain on the ground at least until tomorrow. The Half Moon lake road is open, however it is restricted entry for only homeowners and Half Moon Lake Resort personnel and guests. The forest-wide ban on all open fires remains in effect. FIRE DANGER REMAINS EXTREMELY HIGH

To date, there have not been any fire related accidents for either
the Half Moon or Triangle Lakes fires. Anyone with concerns can contact
the Sublette County Sheriff's office at 307-367-4376, or the Pinedale Ranger
District, 307-367-4326. Hikers in the wilderness who may have cell phones
and can get a signal out can call 911 and ask to be routed to the Sublette
County Sheriff's office if they have concerns.
Because of all the fire activity going on, we have created a new site that has broader information about what is going on with fires on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. www.bridgertetonnationalforest.com We are working very closely with the Forest Service on the information on this site and updating it frequently.
