Pinedale Elementary students raise nearly $4,000 for MESA Equine Assisted Services

The Pinedale Elementary School (PES) students raised $3,928.10 for MESA Equine Assisted Services through a school-wide Read-a-Thon.

At the May 30 end-of- year assembly, the PES Student Council presented the funds to Ms. Carla Seely, MESA’s Executive Director. Ms. Seely thanked the students and shared how horses are effective partners for becoming mindful of our emotions, building confidence, and gaining physical strength. She then invited current MESA riders to share about their favorite MESA horse. One favorite was long-time MESA steed Johnny Ringo, a brown gelding whom one young rider described as "kind of a psychologist."

Now in its 13th season of programming, MESA’s mission is to promote physical independence, social interaction, and confidence through equine assisted services. MESA provides adaptive riding lessons for riders with physical disabilities and emotional challenges in Pinedale and Big Piney/Marbleton. Adaptive riding gets its name from "adapting" riding lessons so they can be accessible for riders with different needs.

MESA also recently added equine-assisted learning (EAL) to its services. EAL is an unmounted, experiential learning approach for individuals and groups of all ages. It can help human participants develop life skills like mindfulness, confidence, communication, and creativity.

MESA stands for Mind, Energy, Spirit, and Attitude. In over a decade of serving Sublette County, MESA instructors and volunteers have seen profound impacts on each of these aspects of participant’s well-being.

MESA is fortunate to have generous donors and volunteers who enable the organization to deliver high-quality programming efficiently. The MESA Board of Directors is deeply grateful to the PES students for choosing to support MESA. MESA is a 501(c) (3) organization; all donations are tax-deductible.
