March 15, 2013
Pinedale High School students on the Wrangler Strength Team attended a Powerlifting Meet in Shoshoni, Wyoming on March 9th. Six schools competed for both individual weight classes and overall team score.
The Pinedale Girls Powerlifting Team took first place and were crowned the Champions; Cody Girls placed second. Cody Boys placed first, and Pinedale Boys placed second.
The team is very grateful to their sponsor, ASAP Construction, which provided team t-shirts and lots of support.
"For this being our first powerlifting meet ever attended for Pinedale High School, our athletes did very, very well," said Coach Eric Oram. "Our athletes lifted with consisted form and great technique. Our athletes set lots of personal records and Tim Perry even set an all time meet record for his weight class in the deadlifts with a lift of 440 lbs! Our efforts in zero hour and in weight room are again supported by the results of improved strength and capacity!" Powerlifting is one of coach Oram's methods to improving student performance. "It's a means to an end, and one of our focuses in training, we work hard to build well-rounded athletes" he said. "We squat, press, and deadlift weekly in training, so I was not surprised that our athletes performed at such a high level! We have strong athletes here and our training programs are as good as any schools in the state." Kyle Bright set several personal records, squatting 330, Bench 225 and dead lifting 380 lbs. Ryan Reed also set new personal records of squat of 340, Bench of 215, and deadlifts of 440 lbs. On the Girls side, five girls placed in the top three for their weight class. The Boys team also had five kids place in the top five in each weight class.
