by Bureau of Land Management
December 11, 2012
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office (PFO) is seeking volunteers to conduct a midwinter bald eagle survey on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Every January since 1979, volunteers have counted bald eagles throughout the U.S. By monitoring and estimating national and regional count trends, an index of the total winter bald eagle population in the lower 48 states has been established. A meeting for interested volunteers will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at 5 p.m. in the PFO Rendezvous Room at 1625 W. Pine in Pinedale, Wyo. Survey methodology and eagle identification will be discussed and survey routes assigned. Two-person observation teams are needed so that one person can safely drive while the other observes and documents eagles. For more information, please contact Josh Hemenway at 307-367-5322.
