Fremont Lake Campground to be reconstructed this summer Bridger-Teton National Forest media release April 16, 2012 Pinedale, Wyoming – The Bridger-Teton National Forest is planning to reconstruct portions of the Fremont Lake Campground and Upper Fremont Lake Boat Site on the Pinedale Ranger District during the 2012 summer season. A result of feedback from recreationists who utilize these popular sites as well as resource specialist input, these upgrades will help improve facilities to meet current needs. Design changes include improved roads with two-way traffic to access the boat site, a slightly enlarged and resurfaced boat site parking area, new pull-through camp units for larger RV’s at the southern end of the campground, and upgraded toilet facilities and camping units within the remainder of the campground. "This campground was originally built in the 1950’s and the camp units were not designed for the size of RV’s that many visitors now use," said Mary Cernicek, Public Affairs Officer for the Bridger-Teton NF. "Also, access to the boat launch site, which is currently one-way through a portion of the campground, will be changed to allow two-way access directly to the boat site. This will be an improvement for campers and boaters alike. We are working to address these issues while maintaining the minimally developed character of the campground." Campground reconstruction will take place throughout the summer in several phases to minimize impacts to campers, while still allowing construction during the short snow-free season at this high elevation site. The campground will be fully open from Memorial Day through Rendezvous Weekend. Beginning July 16, portions of the campground will be subject to closure for reconstruction. Reservations will not be accepted for the campground after July 9, at which time campsites will be available on a first come first served basis. Periodic disruptions of water service are also anticipated during the construction period. The usual camping fee of $12.00 per night will still apply for 2012. The campground is expected to close for the season following Labor Day weekend, September 4, 2012. The Upper Fremont Lake Boat Site and access road are expected to be closed to all use sometime after July 17, and will be re-opened as soon as reconstruction of the access road and parking area is completed. Boaters can access Fremont Lake via the Lower Boat Site on the southwest shore of the Fremont Lake throughout the summer season. "We appreciate all of the comments and input we have received from the people who use the facilities at Fremont Lake" said Cernicek. "This project is our response to what the public is telling us they want. We understand this may cause some inconvenience in the short term but will pay off with long term benefits." Updates regarding implementation of this project will be available throughout the spring and summer at the Pinedale Ranger District (307-367-4326) and will be posted on the Bridger-Teton National Forest website at www.fs.usda.gov/btnf .
