Soul Street Dance brings hip-hop, break-dancing to Pinedale Sept. 23
by Pinedale Fine Arts Council
September 13, 2011
The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is proud to present Soul Street Dance Company performing live Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pinedale Auditorium.
From Houston, TX, Soul Street was created by former members of Fly Dance Company, who incorporate different styles of street dance. Under the direction of Javier Garcia and Rock Williams, Soul Street presents a new era in dance while pushing the artistic boundaries. In street dance they maintain the true essence of the culture.
Soul Street’s public performance will feature a variety of dance styles and selections including a mix of hip-hop, classical and new dance styles with urban-fashioned costumes, and comic delivery. These high-energy selections are fun and exciting. Musical selections include Edgar Meyer, Leonard Bernstein, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Hacienda Propellerheads, Debussy, Kodo Drummers, Michael Jackson, Nat Kink Cole, Aphex Twin, Vivaldi, and James Brown.
The history of the company dates back to 1996, as a self-taught street crew competing for recognition in the Houston areas. They quickly caught the attention of the artistic director for Fly Dance Company where they became the company's principal dancers and helped turn Fly into a national and international touring sensation.
Tickets prices for the Sept. 23 performance are $13 for adults and $7 for students (kids under the age of 5 are free). Tickets are on sale now at Rock Rabbit, Pony Express Photo, The Cowboy Shop, Office Outlets, Isabel Jewelry, The Big Piney Library and at the door the night of the performance ($2 extra).
Soul Street Dance Company live in Pinedale is presented by the Pinedale Fine Arts Council with support in part from the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts which believes a great nation deserves great art, Sublette BOCES, SCSD #1, Western Sublette BOCES #9, the Western States Arts Federation, the Sublette County Recreation Board, the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, Shell Rocky Mtn., EnCana, BP and QEP Resources.
