July 12, 2011 The New York Times posted an article on June 26th in their Environment section highlighting the openly stated goal of planners in a number of European cities: to create an environment openly hostile to cars in a movement to make cities more pedestrian oriented and relatively free of motor vehicles. "The methods vary, but the mission is clear — to make car use expensive and just plain miserable enough to tilt drivers toward more environmentally friendly modes of transportation."
