Shakespeare in the Park returns July 3
Special 10th anniversary production of ‘King Richard II’
by Pinedale Fine Arts Council
June 26, 2009
The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is proud to present the annual "Shakespeare in the Park" on Friday, July 3 at 6:00 p.m. in the American Legion Park (free). Returning to Pinedale will be the award-winning Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company who will be performing the classic Shakespearean history "King Richard II" as part of the company’s tenth anniversary. The company will be joined by guest artists Hugh Dignon, Margo Whitcomb and Neil Worden, for their special 2009 Summer Tour.
William Shakespeare’s RICHARD II is a powerful play that balances between tragedy and lyricism while illustrating the transition of authority from one ruler to another. King Richard may be all-powerful, but he is not strong enough to govern without the formidable aristocratic establishment. Irony lies in the contrast between the anointed ruler, Richard, who is subverting public order, while the blasphemous rebel, Bullingbrook, upholds legality, protects the commons and proves to be a strong leader who ushers in a new era.
Don’t miss this chance to experience RICHARD II, a symphony of super-sized personalities colliding, in the beautiful park setting of the American Legion Park. Bring a picnic, and bring the kids. The show is free but donations are always welcome.
"Shakespeare in the Park" is presented by the Pinedale Fine Arts Council with support from the Wyoming Arts Council, The National Endowment for the Arts, the Town of Pinedale and the Sublette County Recreation Board.
