Sunny Korfanta Ski Race 2009
February 24, 2009
The 5th annual Sunny Korfanta Giant Slalom was held on Saturday, February 21st at White Pine Ski Area near Pinedale. The event is sponsored by the Sublette County Ski & Snowboard Association. More than 120 skiers and snowboarders from age 3 to adult participated in this year’s event.
The event is named in honor of Albert "Sunny" Korfanta, who was instrumental in opening White Pine Ski Area near Pinedale and had a life-long interest in sports, including skiing. He was born in Rock Springs in 1915, making him 93 today. He also promoted ski racing and his contributions to the sport of skiing earned him induction into the prestigious Intermountain Ski Hall of Fame in Utah’s Olympic Park. The annual Sunny Korfanta ski race was started in 2005 by the Sublette County Ski Club.
