EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. encourages high school seniors who are pursuing a degree in engineering, geology or geophysics at a four-year university, to see their school counselors to apply for its High School Scholarship Program. The scholarships can also be applied at a two-year college, including technical or trade schools related to the oil and gas industry, such as Production Technology, Heavy Equipment Operator or Land Administration.
The scholarship – $2,500 per year for up to four years – is awarded annually to one graduating student in each school district within EnCana’s areas of operations, including: Green River, Rock Springs, Farson-Eden, Big Piney, Pinedale, Riverton, Wind River, Arapahoe, Shoshoni and St. Stephens high schools.
"A skilled workforce is more productive and helps employers stay competitive," said EnCana Community Investment Advisor Joyce Witte. "With the current state of our economy, it is vital that students have our financial commitment to remain self-sufficient and continue their education for all four years."
High school seniors who have demonstrated a solid academic record, and community involvement, and plan on being a full-time student are eligible to apply. Individual school districts will review applications and select recipients. The applications deadline is April 1, 2009. Students should see their school guidance counselors for an application.
Last year’s scholarship recipients were Kendra Williams of Pinedale High School, Gregory Eiden Jr. of Big Piney High School, Emily Erickson of Rock Springs High School, Seth Harris of Green River High School, Justin Hemming and Michael Johnson of Riverton High School, Bridger Mann-Wood of Lander Valley High School, Juan Meneses of Wind River High School, and Alisa Frohbieter of Shoshoni High School.
The scholarship is awarded directly to the student, and can be used for any college-related financial need, including tuition and fees, textbooks, and rent.
