June 9th - Kid's Fishing Day was a whole lot of fun! Kid's Fishing Day was great fun! The weather cooperated with blue skies, minimal wind and warm temperatures. About 70 kids and their families registered and attended the 11th annual event, which this year was held at the CCC Ponds, instead of the Town Park, and coincided with the CCC dedication. Click here to see more pictures of the day! Fly Fishermen: If you are interested in knowing the latest hatch reports, visit the Two Rivers Emporium web site for John Ross's latest updates. Two Rivers Emporium offers some of the finest rainbow and brown trout fishing in the state of Wyoming with guides who are up to date on hatches and which flies and lures are working. Pony Express riders will be on the road with the mail after a hiatus of more than 100 years. They will recreate the legendary Pony Express route, relaying Commemorative Letters from California to Missouri. The riders will leave California on June 13th, travel over South Pass on the 18th and 19th, and head on to Missouri where they finish their ride on June 23rd. They will be going from Farson to Jeffrey City, June 18-19. To catch a glimpse of them as they gallop past on Sunday, June 18, you can be in Farson at 7:30 p.m., Sweetwater River Station at 11:00 p.m., or in Atlantic City at midnight. You'll have another chance to see the riders around 4:00 a.m. on the 19th along Highway 287 at Sweetwater Station, or in Jeffrey City at 6:00 a.m. that same morning. Organizers recommend spectators arrive an hour before the scheduled time to ensure seeing the riders. June 2nd - Weather is great and there's lots going on! Kid's Fishing Day is tomorrow from 11 am - 3 pm at the CCC Ponds. Registration begins at 10 am. The CCC Pond special dedication is at 11 am. There will be clinics on spinning and fly-casting instruction, hook baiting, fish handling, knot tying, fishing safety, fishing ethics, fish habitat, and fish identification. All participants will be awarded prizes. Pre-registration is requested at the Pinedale & Big Piney Forest Service and Wyoming Game & Fish offices. There will also be a free pig roast sponsored by the Pinedale Chapter 469 of Trout Unlimited. Kid's Fishing Day is sponsored by the USFS, Trout Unlimited, WY Game & Fish, and the BLM, and is in conjunction with National Fishing Week. Saturday, June 3rd, is FREE Day at the Museum of the Mountain Man from 10 am until 6 pm. Admission is normally $4 for Adults, $3 for Senior Citizens, and $2 for children 6-12 years old. The Museum presents a visual and interpretative experience into the romantic era of the mountain man and provides a comprehensive overview of the Western Fur Trade's historical significance. The Museum is situated in the heart of the country that was once the hub of the Rocky Mountain Rendezvous system. Six of the rendezvous of the early 1800s were held in the Green River Valley near present day Pinedale, Wyoming. The dedication of the new Pinedale Skateboard Park was held last Saturday. The Sublette County Sheriff's Office sponsored a barbecue to kick off the grand opening, and kids of all ages lined up to test the equipment. The new park was built by donations and fundraisers from the community. Kids, parents, and local businesses all agreed that a dedicated park was needed as more and more boarders, skaters and bikers use any available jump and bump to get the thrill of some air. The next addition planned for the park is a half-pipe, which will cost an extra $15,000. Anyone interested in contributing to the park can contact Undersheriff Henry Schmidt the Sublette County Sheriff's Office. scso@coffey.com Hi to those of you Big Pineyites hunting here for information about the upcoming reunions!
