Description: | Summary Description: The Clinic Registered Nurse is an integral part of the healthcare team. The team is devoted in the delivery of primary and emergent care in an ambulatory setting with emphasis on prevention and health maintenance. The RN will assist the providers and other clinical staff in performing their duties and carrying on the necessary daily functions required in accordance with the SCHD policies and procedures.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Nursing.
Responsibilities: 1. Must possess the ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to; administering treatments and medications in compliance with the physician’s orders and applicable clinic policy, interpreting diagnostic tests, assessing, and reassessing patients and formulating plan of care within the nursing scope of practice. 2. Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialist as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care. 3. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age, developmental status, mental and or physical abilities. 4. Ability to assess and reassess pain. Utilize appropriate pain management techniques. Appropriately educates the patient and family regarding pain management. 5. Administers medication as ordered by health care provider while abiding by state licensure practices and maintaining proper documentation in the patient record. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age or weight of the patient and their clinical condition. 6. Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse manager, co-workers, physicians, patients, and families in a professional manner. 7. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s condition and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs. 8. Responds to incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. At the direction of the primary health care provider, instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment plans. 9. Must possess the ability to document/chart observations and other data related to the clinical condition of the patient. Documentation meets current standards and policies. 10. Facilitates patient care coordination with outside entities, ensuring that referral process is completed according to established procedure. 11. Supervise and delegate tasks to the MA’s and other staff as needed for patient care. 12. Assists health care providers with examinations and treatment procedures. Obtains laboratory samples in accordance with policies and procedures to ensure correct sample, correct identification of sample and correct testing ordered. Assists radiology with transport of patient for imaging if the level of care requires nursing care or interventions. 13. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure. 14. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. 15. Interacts professionally with patients/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. 16. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection prevention, and control standards. 17. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized. 18. Maintains clean and well supplied exam rooms and work stations to ensure efficient working environment. 19. Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments and treatment trays per protocol. 20. Assists in cost containment through the appropriate use and conservation of supplies and equipment. 21. Maintains proficiency in laboratory procedures as required in the Laboratory Point of Care policy manual. 22. Perform other duties as assigned and as needs arise.
Qualifications: 1. Current State of Wyoming RN license with no restrictions. BSN preferred. ADN and Diploma graduates accepted. 2. A minimum of one (1) years’ experience in professional nursing. 3. Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, PALS.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations, and practices to give and evaluate patient care. Skill to apply and modify these principles, methods, and techniques to provide ongoing patient care. 2. Must demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills. 3. Strong multi-tasking skills with the ease of changing directions upon request as needed. 4. Sound analytical and problem-solving skills. 5. Must have knowledge and understanding of all existing medical equipment. 6. Ability to perform and supervise ongoing patient care. 7. Ability to work in a team-oriented environment, communicate effectively, and demonstrate sensitivity to patients, visitors, and staff. 8. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
Working Conditions: 1. Subject to varying situations including ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively, and sensitively to special population groups, including those defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, sexual orientation, economic standing, etc. 2. Frequent contact with a variety of people including prisoners and people with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. 3. Medical office, exam room, laboratory, radiology, emergency room and professional practice settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to rural clinic environments. 4. May require travel between District sites.
Physical Demands: Varied activities including moving, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling, moving, positioning, and transporting patients. Also requires manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and moving for extensive periods of time. Occasionally moves items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. This position frequently requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Year-round highway travel between clinics and other facilities throughout the district is required.
